You may be a candidate for SmartLipo if you:
SmartLipo is not a solution for weight loss but is intended for removing stubborn deposits of excess fat and sculpting the body you want.
While both traditional liposuction and SmartLipo effectively remove fat, there are key differences between the two procedures.
Traditional Liposuction | SmartLipo | |
Technique | Uses a cannula (tube) and physical manipulation to suction fat from beneath the skin. | Uses a very small cannula and laser light to melt the fat and deliver heat to the surrounding tissue. This results an easier recovery. |
Anesthesia | General anesthesia | Local anesthesia – Patients are awake during the procedure. |
Skin Tightening | None | Yes, the laser heat during the SmartLipo procedure stimulates the growth of collagen, which continues to tighten the skin. |
Recovery | Requires a longer recovery time, sometimes significant pain, and the use of compression garments for up to 3 months. | Most SmartLipo patients are back to work in 3-4 days, and typically only need compression garments for 1-4 weeks. |
Scarring | Significant | Scarring is less likely with SmartLipo since the entry incisions are very small, less than ¼ of an inch, and do not require any stitches. |
Patients are up and walking around as soon as possible after their SmartLipo procedure. A compression garment needs to be worn for 1-4 weeks on the treated body area to reduce swelling and help your skin properly adhere to its new body contour. You may experience some bruising, swelling and mild discomfort, which can be controlled with Tylenol or prescribed pain medications. Most of our patients return to work within 3-4 days.
You can expect to see results immediately following your SmartLipo procedure. Your results will continue to improve over the coming weeks as your body heals. Over time, your skin continues to tighten, and optimal results are usually seen within three months.
You can expect follow-up at every step of the way after your procedure. Dr. Kwak and his caring staff ensure you have the materials and instructions you need before you leave the office. Several appointments will be scheduled to ensure your proper care, up to a year after your procedure.
